Why Elements Earth?

Most outdoor activities are one-offs. A nice morning, a few photos, then back to the routine. Earth is different.

Elements Earth runs every Wednesday during term time, giving home-educated children a regular place to belong. Over weeks and months, children stop being visitors and start being part of a community. They learn to light fires safely, identify local wildlife, build weatherproof shelters, and work alongside children of different ages.

The mixed-age group is deliberate - younger children learn from older ones, and older children develop patience and leadership without even realising it.

Every session is led by a qualified primary teacher with deep experience of both the classroom and home education. That means the activities are not just fun - they are purposeful, with threads of science, geography, storytelling, and practical problem solving running through every week.

Who It Is For

Earth is designed for home-educated children aged 6-11 who are ready to spend a full day outdoors in all weather. We operate in rain, wind, and cold - there is no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes. Children do not need to be sporty or outdoorsy already; many of our most confident members started nervous and hesitant.

Because we are a mixed-age community, older children often take on informal mentoring roles, and younger children find their feet faster than they would in a same-age group. Siblings are welcome.

FAQs

ELEMENTS ICON - EARTH.png
  • No. Earth is a drop-off programme. Parents are welcome at our end-of-term sharing events, but the day itself is for the children.

  • We run in almost all weather. Heavy rain just means better puddles. We only cancel in dangerous conditions (high winds, lightning).

  • Yes. Our two trial session are designed exactly for this. You can book two weeks and see how they settle.

  • Very normal. Many children take a session or two to find their place. The mixed-age community helps - there is no pressure to perform, and the woodland itself tends to draw children out of themselves. If needed, parents are welcome to stay and help settle their kids into the sessions.

  • Yes, as long as it's safe to do so and we are able to meet their needs. We have supported children with autism, ADHD, anxiety, and dyslexia. Because our group sizes are small and our approach is flexible, we can adapt activities to suit different needs. Please speak to us before booking so we can plan together.

What Parents Say

"My daughter was anxious about joining a new group, but Saira made her feel welcome from the first minute. Six months later, she counts the days until Thursday. The confidence I have seen grow in her is remarkable."

- Parent, Bournemouth

"As a home-educating parent, I was looking for something that gave my son social time without sacrificing the quality of learning. Elements is exactly that. He comes home muddy, exhausted and full of stories about what he built or discovered."

- Parent, Christchurch

"We tried a few outdoor activity groups before finding Elements. The difference is the teaching. Saira does not just supervise - she plans, she questions, she extends their thinking. My children are actually learning, not just playing outside."

- Parent, Southbourne

"The mixed-age group works brilliantly. My 7-year-old learns from watching the older children, and my 12-year-old has developed real patience and leadership. I did not expect that outcome."

- Parent, Poole
